A close-up look at new Earth-like planets
[ Thu, 28 Jul 2016 13:04:19 EDT ]
For a craft that was launched in 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope continues to provide us with awe-inspiring firsts. This time, researchers pointed its venerable lens in the direction of Earth-size planets beyond our solar system to give us the first glimpse into their atmospheres, according to a new study.

Dolly the sheep's cloned sisters in good health despite age
[ Sat, 30 Jul 2016 18:22:29 EDT ]
Though growing old, Dolly's sheep siblings are no worse for wear. Debbie, Denise, Dianna and Daisy, clones all derived from the same cell line as the first cloned mammal, show no signs of long-term health issues, according to research published Tuesday in the journal Nature Communications. The clones are, in fact, in vigorous good condition despite the fact that they range in age from 7 to 9, or about 60 to 70 in human years.

Y'all, Pokemon Go has been out for just over a week and it has already inspired enough craziness and hot takes to last us until the end of time. If we wrote about every single funny tweet or poor sap who fell in a lake while trying to catch a Rattata (not worth it), we would never sleep.

Rare 'Frankenstein' galaxy discovered
[ Wed, 13 Jul 2016 11:50:18 EDT ]
Since its discovery in the 1960s, astronomers believed that in a relatively quiet suburb of our universe 250 million light-years away, there lived a boring little galaxy named UGC 1382 that was otherwise unremarkable -- apart from being a system of millions of stars, gas and dust being held together by gravity. It is one of 12,921 listed in the Uppsala General Catalogue of Galaxies, or UGC.
