Really, the Rolodex might be one of the more important memory systems ever created.Just a few years ago there were no virtual social networks, no synchronized address books, and no smartphones. But people had social networks and phones, and they had to memorize and organize thousands of contacts. Or have a Rolodex.

Two images from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter show the Phoenix Mars Lander. The left photo, from 2008, shows two bluish shots on either side corresponding to the probe's solar panels. The right photo, from 2010, shows a dark shadow that could mark the lander body and eastern solar panel. However, the image appears to lack a shadow from the western solar panel.NASA has ended efforts to regain contact with its Phoenix Mars Lander near the Red Planet's north pole.
