The OnStar automobile communication service used by 6 million Americans maintains its two-way connection with a customer even after the service is discontinued, while reserving the right to sell data from that connection. Although the orbiting lab is far larger than the space agency's defunct satellite, which made an uncontrolled re-entry through Earth's atmosphere late Friday night, the station's eventual demise will pose little threat to folks on Earth.
