'Twindex' aims to measure voters' moods
[ Thu, 02 Aug 2012 10:41:44 EDT ]
Twitter launched a new service on Wednesday called the Twitter Political Index, or Twindex. By applying highly tuned algorithms to Twitter's fire hose of data, the service offers a real-time look at voters' moods, and scores which presidential candidate is trending up (and who is trending down) day to day.

Will there be a virtual Mars in our future?
[ Wed, 1 Aug 2012 14:49:07 GMT ]
Imagine a day when virtual reality gets so good that you could take a walk on the Martian surface, right here on Earth. Or imagine controlling an army of robots from Martian orbit. Science fiction? Yes, but maybe not for long.

Amazon Instant Video app comes to iPad â and boy, it sounds great
[ Wed, 1 Aug 2012 15:56:10 GMT ]
If it weren't for a busy schedule, I'd be making a date with the new Amazon Instant Video app, my iPad, and several episodes of "The West Wing" right now. After all, Amazon's shiny new app might be the best thing that's happened to iPad-toting Amazon Prime members in a while. (And it's pretty great for everyone else, too.)

Why the U.S. military won't be building Batman's flying 'Bat'
[ Wed, 1 Aug 2012 15:57:18 GMT ]
When the Dark Knight rises to defend Gotham once more, he literally takes to the skies in a flying vehicle known simply as the Bat. The new nonlethal weapon in Batman's arsenal can hover like a helicopter and pull off aerial maneuvers worthy of "Top Gun" fighter jets â a combination that may be too good to be true.

Who should protect us online?
[ Thu, 26 Jul 2012 08:13:41 EDT ]
More than 400 million people trust Google with their e-mail, and 50 million store files in the cloud using the Dropbox service. People manage their bank accounts, pay bills, trade stocks and generally transfer or store huge volumes of personal data online. Who is ultimately in charge of making sure all this information is secure: the government, the companies or the users?
