Crew blasts off for Christmas space mission

Service towers move away from the Russian Soyuz TMA-17 spacecraft a few minutes before liftoff early Monday. This picture was taken with a long exposure to capture the arcing tracks of the towers. A Russian rocket has blasted off from a cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, shuttling an American, a Russian and a Japanese to the International Space Station.
