Geneva atom smasher sets collision record
[ Tue, 30 Mar 2010 13:39:26 GMT ]

Scientists celebrate the Large Hadron Collider's high-energy collisions on Tuesday at the CMS experiment control room near Geneva. "This is a huge step toward unraveling Genesis Chapter 1, Verse 1 — what happened in the beginning," physicist Michio Kaku told The Associated Press. The world's largest atom smasher conducts its first experiments at conditions nearing those that existed just after the big bang, breaking its own record for high-energy proton collisions.
