Pacific Northwest at risk for mega earthquake
[ Tue, 2 Mar 2010 19:44:49 GMT ]

Located just 50 miles off the coast, the 680-mile-long Cascadia fault has lain dormant for 300 years. When it awakens, the consequences could be devastating to Northwest cities such as Seattle (shown here), Portland and Vancouver. The disaster in Chile has brought new attention to an undersea fault along the Pacific Northwest capable of producing the same type of mega earthquake and inflicting heavy damage on bustling cities like Seattle, Portland and Vancouver.
