Mount St. Helens still recovering 30 years later

Elk graze on a hillside above Coldwater Lake in Washington state, amid tree trunks left behind by the May 18, 1980, eruption of Mount St. Helens.The recovery of the Mount St. Helens area was "a wonderful living laboratory" to investigate how ecosystems and species respond to and recover from major disturbances.
