Meteors from Halley's Comet rain down on Earth

Skywatchers can start looking for Orion low in the eastern sky around 1 a.m. on any morning around the peak, Oct. 21. The setup is seen here from mid-northern latitudes. Even though the radiant of the shower is in Orion, meteors can appear far from the constellation.Halley's Comet won't zoom near Earth again for another 50 years, but the ice ball may still put on a show for some skywatchers this week in the form of a meteor shower. And Thursday is the day for a peak viewing opportunity.
