'Dead' deep sea vents are anything but dead

This expired hydrothermal vent towers 30 feet (9 meters) above the seafloor. Scientists took rock samples from the top for their study.Volcanic seafloor vents that roar with the scalding heat of Earth's interior don't stay hot forever. Eventually, over hundreds or thousands of years, they flicker out and turn cold.
